HOW IT ALL BEGAN ...

In 1968, our company founder Kurt Ernsting attracted the first customers to his “minipreis” test store – at that time still in the laundry room of his parents’ textile shop. His thinking behind this was pragmatic: as a father of four, he knew what a family needs and where there was still a gap in the market in the clothing segment. His success quickly proved him right, so he began building up a chain of stores in 1968. This now comprises more than 1,915 stores, in which more than 12,260 employees still meet the needs of families with passion and warmth.

Family business with tradition and a future

From a small to a big family: Ernsting’s family is one of the largest cross-channel providers in the German textile retail sector today, with 1,915 stores in Germany and Austria, a multi-award-winning online presence and around 12,260 employees. Turnover in the 2022/2023 financial year totalled around €1.385 billion, our company buildings were designed by renowned architects and our online shop now has two million customers. And yet, the down-to-earth attitude, modesty and approachability of our company founder Kurt Ernsting still characterises the life and work at Ernsting’s family today and the way we welcome everyone who wants to be a part of it.
