HOW I JOINED ERNSTING’S FAMILY

I’m Lina and have been working for Ernsting's family in Düsseldorf since 2017. I previously worked for another clothing company as a team leader. But I had the feeling there that I was not able to do things that suit me. At Ernsting’s family I can bring my strengths to the table and also develop professionally without having to be in a leadership role. I also love the fact that there is not a uniform. I can wear my own clothes and make-up.

MY WORK, MY TEAM AND ME

I love the fact that I can make my own contribution to my work and am constantly evolving as a result. I feel very at home here and am always satisfied with my work. As colleagues we all treat each other fairly and communicate clearly. Everybody’s so flexible that you can easily swap shifts with each other. Even though we’re very different, we’re a good fit and complement each other superbly. On top of that, I feel that my supervisor really takes me seriously. He listens to my ideas, lets me make decisions and very much supports you having your own opinion and expressing it. He also responds quickly to any concerns we have. All in all, this creates a lot of trust.

MY TIP FOR YOU

We take on a variety of tasks and are always on the move. So you’re a great fit with us if you’re both mentally and physically fit. A certain amount of flexibility in terms of time is also important. This allows us to organise our working schedules together so that all colleagues can reconcile their family life and work perfectly.

HOW I JOINED ERNSTING’S FAMILY

I’ve been at Ernsting’s family for many years, since 2007 actually. I originally worked in the jewellery retail business. After I’d spent a few years at home with my children, I decided it was time to return to work and applied to Ernsting’s family . I think it was the positive and cheerful aura that won me over at the time. Over the years, I’ve worked at various stores in Duisburg and Mühlheim. And I’m still not bored.

MY WORKING DAY AT ERNSTING’S FAMILY

We deal with merchandising, cashier work and make sure that the products are restocked and tidied up. At the same time, we are there for our customers. All colleagues do everything in our stores, so their day-to-day work is varied and diverse. I myself have another special role. I’m part of the inventory team. This means that I assist several stores with the inventory over a period of three weeks. It’s an exhausting, but also exciting and lovely time, during which I always appreciate how closely the teams work together.

I enjoy my job because there’s always something going on! We have a really nice customer base that always loves coming to the store. I also find the collections great fun. The colours are perfectly coordinated and everything is colourful and bright. I’m always in a good mood when I go to work and am happy to sell our products.

There is a really positive atmosphere in our team. We can coordinate with each other really well and divide the tasks among ourselves. Our management team is also always there to give advice and support. Even if they’re not in the store, we can always reach them and so they always have our backs.

Once we have received your application, it will be checked by our store recruiting team. We will share the outcome with you as soon as possible.

If we like what we’ve read

FIRST MEETING

Provided that we are happy with all the basic information, we will invite you partake in a telephone interview first so we can discuss everything you would like to know about working in our store.

One step closer

CHECK BY AREA MANAGEMENT

After an initial phone call, we forward your application with our recommendation to the area manager for your preferred store. An invitation to the next interview usually follows as soon as possible.

In the store

FACE-TO-FACE MEETING

It’s important for us to meet you in person – so the area manager will invite you to the store for a taster day or you will meet them there for a face-to-face interview.

And finally...

THE DECISION

Now you will know if the job appeals to you and we have also had an opportunity to get to know each other. We use this as the basis for our decision, which we will inform you of as soon as possible.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We are looking for colleagues for our stores who can work flexibly within our opening hours from Monday to Saturday. The work schedules are prepared in coordination with your team on a monthly basis.

Each of our stores has a team of several employees who work together flexibly. After an intensive induction, we entrust you with your store, which you are usually solely responsible for, but you also work with one or two other colleagues at certain times.

Of course, you can always reach your area manager or our store service by phone at any time if you have any queries.

We basically offer any kind of internship in our stores and look forward to receiving your application. We check to what extent and in what context your internship is possible in your preferred store on an individual basis with the responsible area manager.

Since the induction of our aspiring sales professionals takes several weeks, we are unfortunately unable to offer holiday jobs in our stores.

If you are 18 years of age or older, you can work in one of our stores. Exceptions apply for students on work experience.

In our stores we basically work as a team with respectful cooperation and without store management. The responsible area manager regularly visits stores and can also be contacted by phone at any time.

No, at the moment we do not offer full-time jobs in our stores. You can find out more about our working-time models here.

Our goal is to build a long-term and trusting working relationship with you. For this reason, the following applies: Even though our employment contracts are initially temporary, we would be delighted to be able to offer you a permanent contract early on in consultation with your area manager.

Don’t worry, you won’t be thrown in at the deep end with us! You will receive an intensive induction that will help you to feel comfortable in your store and will thoroughly prepare you for your job. You will be accompanied by a specially qualified trainer.

As a family business, we help each other out but your regular store is the main focus of your work. If you are ever assigned to another store, your travel time and expenses to the neighbourhood store will be covered.

An increase in hours always depends on the store where you’re working. Your area manager will clarify what your options are in a personal meeting.

It’s important to us that you get your rest and have time to recover so we top up the minimum statutory holiday leave from 24 days to a total of 36 days with a six-day week.

No, you don't need to have trained in retail to work in one of our stores. It’s important to us that you have a passion for fashion, enjoy interacting with people and are wholeheartedly committed to helping our customers of all ages. Then you’ll feel right at home as part of our “family”!
