HEAR FROM OUR TRAINEES

OUR EVERYDAY WORK IN DESIGN IS VARIED, INTERESTING AND SOMETIMES CHALLENGING. WE LIKE TO SAY THAT WE ARE AN AGILE TEAM, WHICH IS PRETTY ACCURATE FOR A NUMBER OF REASONS.

MY JOURNEY AT ERNSTING’S FAMILY

Things started for me at Ernsting’s family when I completed an internship here, which was a compulsory part of my degree. As I really enjoyed working in the company, I then decided to write my final year dissertation at Ernsting’s family. It addressed the development of a materials library for the creation of working documents in the area of design. I’m very proud that we still use the findings from my project now, as they are the basis for the “List of Material" in the PLM system.

After a 15-month entry programme as a trainee in design, during which I was able to take on my own, permanent area of responsibility focusing on socks, I was very pleased to be appointed as a Junior Designer.

A DAY IN MY LIFE WORKING IN DESIGN

Our everyday work in design at Ernsting’s family is varied, interesting and sometimes challenging. We like to say that we are an agile team, which is pretty accurate for number of reasons. There’s almost no area in which I haven’t yet provided a helping hand. In addition to the various collections for our brands, there are several online-only and potential ranges that we are working on. This makes our work very multifaceted, varied and fast-moving. It’s great that we aren’t just well networked among the 33 employees who work in design, but that we also work together with various colleagues from other departments.

ALWAYS ON THE LOOKOUT FOR NEW TRENDS

As designers, one of our tasks is to follow the latest trends in the market. That’s why we always visit trade fairs and travel to major cities at home and abroad to keep an eye on the competition and innovations in the market. I especially like visiting stores in London and Barcelona!

WHY COESFELD-LETTE?

I really like the Lette site because it is a large and modern campus surrounded by beautiful architecture and nature. I also get to enjoy all of this from my desk, as the large windows let plenty of daylight and greenery into the offices. Another advantage is that the Ruhr area and Münsterland region can be accessed quickly by bus, train and car.

THERE ARE ALWAYS NEW CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES IN THE DIGITAL ENVIRONMENT. OUR GOAL IS TO BE UP TO DATE AT ALL TIMES.

HI, I’M VINCENT!

After finishing university, I decided that I wanted to join the trainee programme in digital marketing at Ernsting’s family. My focus was on branding, but I also gained several interesting insights into social media, search engine, influencer, affiliate, display, online-to-offline and dialogue marketing and took on tasks in other Digital Business teams. I quickly found myself a niche and I am now primarily responsible for branding work on the display advertising, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube channels.

VARIETY AND COLLABORATION

What I appreciate most about my job is its variety. Ernsting’s family is always coming up with new content-related topics, which I manage and promote across various channels. The collaboration with my colleagues is also multifaceted. I work closely with various teams in my department such as Media Design, Data and Analytics and Content and Campaigning, but I also collaborate very closely with other departments and the teams at our external agencies, Google, Facebook and so on.

Working with so many different people and being close to the product range is what makes my job so interesting for me.

DIGITAL BUSINESS IN MOTION

Channels, advertising media, key figures and measurement methods are constantly changing and completely new ones are sometimes added too. For us, this means that we must respond extremely quickly and try out many things which we then test and assess. These new challenges drive me and motivate me every day!

Digital business and the digital world are always changing and something is always happening.

YOU WILL FIT INTO OUR DIGITAL BUSINESS TEAM IF ...

... You are flexible! After all, in our job, it is important to question and optimise everything all the time – by that I mean channels and advertising media, as well as topics and assessment methods. If you’re passionate about tackling problems, you want to improve things and, above all else, you like a challenge, you’ll be the perfect fit for our team!

There are always new challenges and opportunities in the digital environment. Our goal is to be up to date at all times.

PART OF THE TEAM FROM DAY ONE!

We are a large and rapidly growing team. Integrating new employees is a matter of course for us and works well. With us, there is no such thing as the new guy or girl. And after our first joint breakfast breaks or team events, it will be difficult for us to imagine the team without you.

MY FIRST DAY AT WORK AS A TRAINEE...

... certainly got off to an eventful start. The fact that a big summer party was held for all the staff members on my very first day was, perhaps, an omen for the many experiences that were to follow. My new head of department was really kind and drove me home by car after the party, so I didn’t have to return by train. A short time later, I went to an Arche event in Hamburg. There, all the junior staff members took part in a social project and got to know each other better. This was then followed by the biggest highlight of the company’s social calendar, it’s 50th anniversary. We had an incredible day in the Lanxess Arena in Cologne along with around 9,000 colleagues!

I QUICKLY REALISED THAT I WANTED TEAM SPIRIT AND A TRUSTING ENVIRONMENT AND TO BE MORE THAN JUST ANOTHER NUMBER ON THE PAYROLL.

A BIG COMPANY IN THE COUNTRYSIDE?

Yes, they do exist! After finishing university, I decided I wanted to go back home to the countryside but to work at a big company all the same. I didn’t want to work for a huge corporation though. I quickly found out about Ernsting’s family – the perfect solution. Once you’ve been here, the campus speaks for itself. I really like meeting people here and the personal contact - and not being just another number on the payroll or one of many others.

AM I A “FAMILY PERSON”?

Either you’re a “family person” or you aren’t. I think at some point everyone here asks themselves the question “do I actually fit in here?” The people that make up the teams at Ernsting’s family appreciate meeting on campus every day in rural Lette, love to have breakfast together and enjoy socialising outside their own department. They are people who are open, transparent and friendly. During my trainee programme I quickly realised that I wanted team spirit and a friendly environment and that in my professional environment, I wanted to be more than just another number on the payroll or one of many others.

MY JOURNEY AT ERNSTING’S FAMILY

My trainee programme took me from Human Resource Development, to Merchandise Management and E-com Planning, through to Strategic Sales Development. I was entrusted with responsibility for my own projects in each department from the start. When you carry out your first projects on your own and complete them independently – but with the right support and the necessary preparation of course – it feels really good, and helps you to take big steps forward personally and professionally. I am now a Project Manager for Strategic Sales Development and looking back I can say that the trainee programme really prepared me well for my role.

I now consider the fact that I was allowed to shape my own path as a trainee to have been a fantastic opportunity.
