As an IT Specialist for Application Development in Coesfeld-Lette you will get to know the world of IT at Ernsting’s family especially well, as you will have the opportunity to get involved in many different processes and projects. Are you interested in the development of applications and interfaces in the SAP environment and as part of our online shop? Then join us and help shape Ernsting’s family. 

During your apprenticeship, you can expect a variety of assignments in our Application Development and E-Commerce IT departments, where you will learn everything about the requirements analysis, design and development of the applications used. These support the daily work at Ernsting’s family, whether that means the retail staff at our stores, the staff at headquarters and logistics or the customers who use our online shop.

WHAT AWAITS YOU IN YOUR APPRENTICESHIP

THE USERS IN FOCUS

As an internal service provider, you and your colleagues will support and help develop a wide variety of programs and ensure a user-friendly interface. At Ernsting’s family, we mainly use the programming languages Java and ABAP Objects, and you will learn all about these languages in your apprenticeship.

FOR THE DIGITAL SHOPPING EXPERIENCE

In our E-Commerce IT department, you will delve deep into the technology behind our online shop and work with our external service providers to ensure that everything runs smoothly. You and your colleagues will also continue to develop the shop further so that our customers have an even better shopping experience.

NICE AND VERSATILE

As an IT Specialist for Application Development, you won’t just test and adapt our existing systems, you will also help with the introduction of new software. When it comes to describing IT teams, the concept of “the nerds in the corner” is long since a thing of the past. Our IT department is strongly networked with every part of our business to provide the best solutions for the users.

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

In addition to your apprenticeship, we also support you with your personal development. You will learn how to cooperate and communicate with colleagues and external partners in a trusting way, how to organise your tasks, and how to act independently and in a future-oriented way. Your personal development is also complemented by seminars, smaller projects and events.

AN IMPORTANT COG IN MANY PROCESSES

Our application developers play an important role in keeping our company’s systems and processes running. If a system fails or isn’t working smoothly, it can mean that a department isn’t able to work at all. Our IT department makes sure that all our systems are available and running smoothly at all times.

HAVE YOUR SAY, PARTICIPATE, SHAPE THINGS

Your ideas and opinions are always welcome. We look forward to discussing with you and hearing new input from you! So that you can contribute directly at Ernsting’s family, you will also be given your own small projects and learn to take on an increasing degree of responsibility for your tasks. You can also help shape your apprenticeship individually and together with other apprentices.

DURATION OF YOUR APPRENTICESHIP

Three years (under certain conditions a reduction is possible, we will be happy to assess on an individual basis)

APPRENTICESHIP LOCATIONS

Headquarters (Hugo-Ernsting-Platz 1, 48653 Coesfeld-Lette) and Pictorius vocational college in Coesfeld (one to two days per week)

WORKING HOURS AND HOLIDAYS

37.5 hours per week and 30 holidays per year

START OF APPRENTICESHIP

Start in August, next apprenticeship start: 2026

HOW THE APPRENTICESHIP IS STRUCTURED

In the first two years of your apprenticeship, you will learn about the various areas of Application Development and E-Commerce IT at Ernsting’s family. We will draw up an individual assignments plan for you which will naturally include your ideas. The third year of your apprenticeship is your specialisation year. Drawing on your personal views, your feedback interviews after each departmental assignment and the advice from our training and development team, we will find the perfect department for you and the third year of your apprenticeship. 

You will also learn all the necessary technical and background knowledge that you will need to work as an IT Specialist for Application Development at vocational college. Your apprenticeship will be rounded off with a variety of internal seminars, events and workshops.

SUPPORT DURING YOUR APPRENTICESHIP

MENTORS FROM THE APPRENTICE COMMUNITY

In the first year of your apprenticeship you have a second year mentor who is there to help and advise you. You therefore have a mentor who was in a similar situation to you last year.

TRAINING STAFF IN OUR DEPARTMENTS

In every department there is at least one trainer who is there for you throughout your apprenticeship!

Do you have questions about your work, or maybe you don’t quite understand a task? Not a problem – on the contrary! In addition to your trainer, your colleagues will be happy to help you at any time.
